REP Social Media & Informational Designs ✎ᝰ.ᐟ⋆

As Assistant Director of Social Media for UW Housing and Food Services's Residential Education Programming Team, I managed REP's social media presence and created content to engage residents and highlight our work. I designed and posted educational content, promoted upcoming programs, and created event recaps to celebrate events and encourage future attendance. My focus was on making REP’s initiatives more accessible and engaging through creative visuals, consistent styling, and clear content. Note: All participants consented to having their image taken that have been pictured in the recap examples.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Management: Maintained a consistent posting schedule across REP’s social media platforms, aligning posts with program timelines, academic calendars, and community needs.

  • Creative Content Design: Designed graphics and visuals that reflected REP’s branding and values, ensuring accessibility, clarity, and aesthetic appeal. Marketing designed most event materials, and I completed recaps, resource posts, and some event marketing.

  • Event Promotion: Wrote captions and alternative texts for posts designed by the marketing team to boost attendance at workshops, socials, and educational events.

  • Recap & Engagement Content: Created event recaps featuring photo highlights, key takeaways, and related information/resources to celebrate success and encourage future engagement.

  • Visual Cohesion: Followed consistent styling and tone across content to strengthen REP’s identity.

The Design Process

Pictured to the right is a poster I made for an event I hosted. To help visualize my design process, I included some of the Canva assets I used on the left. I started by identifying the core themes of the event - creativity and sustainability - and chose a color palette and font style that felt natural, earthy, and approachable. From there, I experimented with layout options in Canva, incorporating plant illustrations, bold headers, and accessible text to create a balanced and visually engaging poster.

Throughout the process, I prioritized readability and alignment with REP’s visual identity. Once finalized, the poster was reformatted, shared on our Instagram, and placed on physical bulletin boards across ~20 campus building spaces.

Pictured to the left is a poster I created for a “Junk Journaling” event. One of the most exciting parts of designing this was getting to create the actual junk journal featured on the cover! One of the design practices I like to work with is layering different textures and materials, so I experimented with different stationery and Canva graphics until I found a look I was satisfied with.

Impact and Retention

Through a mix of educational content, creative visuals, interactive posts, and engaging captioning, I helped increase REP’s digital engagement and visibility. My work supported a more connected and informed residential community and ensured that REP’s diverse programming was accessible, relevant, and celebrated.

As of 05/25/2025, the REP Instagram was at 1,508 followers. This was up 2.0% since February 23rd of this year. This account tends to have a lot of turnover as many followers are students living on campus, and the account has grown at least 200 followers since I have started running it.

To extend the impact of our events, I created recap posts that celebrated student participation, highlighted key moments, and encouraged future engagement. These posts often included photo collages, related graphics, and extra resources related to the topic of the event.

My goal was to foster a sense of community by showing residents that their presence mattered, and that REP events were meaningful, memorable experiences worth coming back to. Some recaps were quarterly, and others were event-specific depending on event turnout and type.

Above is an event-specific (Junk Journaling) recap.

While every member of REP makes one educational post per quarter, I made several because of my role as the Assistant Director of Social Media. These posts were designed to inform, empower, and connect students with useful knowledge and campus resources.

This is a snippet of a post I made for Earth day highlighting small tips for sustainability, advocacy, and resources on and around the UW campus.

Raising Awareness

This post is part of a broader effort I led to ensure REP’s social media reflected the diversity of our student body and served as a platform for inclusive learning and celebration. Including information about the planet and celebrating diversity and inclusion in our posts not only increased student interaction but also fostered a stronger sense of belonging within our community.

Below is a snippet from a post I made for Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, which aimed to uplift aromantic identities and educate our residential community about the spectrum of romantic attraction.

Educational Campaigns

I put together a range of easy-to-read, visually friendly brochures and resources on things students actually care about - like where to find mental health support, how to stay safe on campus, and more. The goal was to make important information feel less overwhelming and more approachable. I focused on clean design, clear language, and formats that were easy to share both online and in-person. It was all about helping students feel more informed, supported, and connected to the campus community.
